Unfortunately, paper jams happen to every copier or printer from time to time.  While some jams can be tricky, most can be cleared easily without damaging the paper or the machine.

Follow These Tips:

  1. Use the Indicators:  Most machines have color-coded labels or handles that show where you can open doors and guides to check for paper jams. These are usually located along the paper path.

  2. Check Your Manual:  For specific instructions, always refer to your copier’s Operation Manual. It includes diagrams and tips for safely removing jams.

  3. Pull in the Right Direction:  Always try to pull the jammed paper in the same direction it was originally feeding. Pulling it backwards can cause the paper to snag on sensors and tear.

  4. Make Sure You Got It All:  If the paper does tear, collect all the pieces. Lay them out like a puzzle to confirm nothing was left inside. Leftover scraps can cause future jams or feed issues.

  5. Use the “Two-Finger Method”:  Grip the paper gently using your thumb and index finger. Pull slowly and straight along the feed path. This method helps reduce the chance of tearing.
