What Can I Use to Clean the Copier/Slit Glass?

It is best to use a dry lint-free cloth for cleaning a copier’s “Scanner Slit Glass.” This glass can be in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) if equipped, or beside the Platen Glass (the large glass on a copier designated for placing your original to be copied, faxed, or scanned). Some machine models have a small compartment on top of the ADF which contains a dry microfiber cleaning cloth. Use this cloth to clean the Scanner Slit Glass. If you do not have the provided microfiber cloth, any dry microfiber cloth suitable for cleaning eyeglasses can be used to clean the slit glass. For tough or stuck on debris such as ink or Whiteout, you may find it necessary to use a cleaning agent as well. Alcohol poured onto your cleaning cloth or the use of alcohol wipes is recommended as it breaks down tough debris on the glass surface while evaporating rather quickly so it doesn’t leave behind streaks and residues. Glass cleaners may be used as well if needed.

CAUTION: If using any type of liquid for cleaning purposes, avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the glass, as some of the solution may work its way into the copier. Instead, apply the liquid to your cleaning cloth, then use the cloth to clean the glass thoroughly.

If, for some reason the debris still doesn’t want to come off the glass during cleaning, you may also use a sheet of paper to clean the glass. To do this, take a clean sheet of paper and crumple it up in your hands to form a little ball. Use this ball of paper like you would a scouring pad and scrub the paper ball back and forth along the length of the freshly cleaned glass to break up and scrape off hard to remove debris items. The paper will not scratch the Scanner Slit Glass due to the glass being comprised of a tempered glass material like that of glass patio table.
